Atlético Andalucía Come From Behind Twice To Beat Benahavis 4-228 May, 2010
Atlético Andalucía CF played their second preparation game for the 2010-11 season against Benahavis.
The game was played at a slow pace but it was Atlético Andalucía CF that went behind after only 10 minutes when a quick one two set up the Benahavis forward one on one with Eriksson, who coolly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.
Soon after the Goal Benahavis failed to capitalise on their chances with Atletico´s goalkeeper Eriksson making a good save and keeping the score at 1-0.
Atlético tried to pick up the tempo of the game with numerous wasted chances. In a 5 minute span the goalkeeper saved two free kicks from Maxi and Davey.
The club finally made the breakthrough on 17 minutes when a through ball pushed Maxi wide who deflected his shot of the goalkeeper into the goal to level the game.
Soon after the goal Benahavis pushed forward and were rewarded for their attacking play when in the 22nd minute Danny Gill brought down the Benahavis forward just outside the box. From the resulting free kick Benahavis showed their quality by taking the lead for the second time in the game.
With Atlético not looking dangerous going forward head coach Share brought Simon Tucker on for Spanish midfielder Guti. Tucker would made a immediate impact was leading the attack as Atletico looked to push forward to level the game.
On 40 minutes a neat ball was played into Tucker who from the right side of the box cut inside going past two Benahavis defenders and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to level the game.
The second half started with a new line up for Altetico with coach Share changing six players who started the game. Both teams started the second half playing a open game while Benahavis were unlucky to not go a head when Swiss goalkeeper Yannis made a excellent close save.
The game seemed to turn in Atletico´s favour with Benahavis not able to get out of their own half. On 56 minutes after more pressure on Benahavis defence Atletico went a head for the first time in the game when Spanish center back Fabian headed the ball in from a corner and made the score 3-2.
Both teams had several more chances to get on the score sheet with Atletico hitting the bar through Smith. With the game looking to end 3-2 a long ball was played into Atletico´s forwards who smartly played a one two on the edge of the box which set up Maxi to side foot the ball in the net making the final score 4-2.
Atlético Andalucía CF´s head coach Mike Share said "I was dissapointed with the performance from the team, we never showed we can play at a higher tempo which is something we need to work on. I know it´s difficult to get consistency when you use 22 players in a game but we are better and need to work on our distribution of the ball. I think the main problem was that we never used the width of the pitch as we did not move the ball around well. The encouraging thing was that certain players improved in the second half and showed that they can take information on board. As a coach I prefer to lose these kind of games and instead have a good performance that we can build on. Sadly it was the opposite where at times we were awful but in the end we still won the game. I thought that Benahavis gave us a good game and we were lucky to not concede more goals. We now go back to plan for the season and I expect us to announce several more signings in the coming week".
